April Newsletter

Hello Funders, Supporters, Tutors, Families, and Friends:

As the weather warms up, flowers bloom, and Spring fever closes in, it reminds me that the school year is closing. We have had many volunteers from local colleges that have been in significant support of the village. We want to take a moment to send our Congratulations to all of our 2022 graduates and current students that were part of our village. We wish you all the best as you journey through life.

Did you know that MCAC is unique? In the whole state of NH, Manchester Community Action Coalition (MCAC) is one of the few BIPOC community-led initiatives. We exist to offer a community and power-building space where individuals can learn their full potential in and for the community they live and serve. It is exciting to know that we can hold this space to do this work in our state. I am encouraged and impressed by the interest and willingness of folks to do this work in collaboration with us.

To do our work, we need support for this building of community and power institutions for and by BIPOC. To continue to resource all this work and build the capacity necessary, we need funding. I would ask you to consider giving to MCAC so that we can continue to empower and develop the future of the BIPOC community together.

SEE Science Center Sundays are fun days with MCAC! Students of our Community Tutoring Program gather at the SEE Science Center in Manchester, NH, for some in-person tutoring. While they are at the science center, there is ample opportunity to explore the exhibits throughout the center.

The science center has partnered with MCAC to offer training to our tutors on the use of formal and informal learning using the exhibits within the center. We are excited to be able to provide this opportunity to our tutors.

The Community Vaccine Hesitancy coalition has been working hard to finalize a work plan that outlines how we will implement and track our work. We continue to work on ways to get accurate and accessible information about vaccines to BIPOC and low-income communities in Manchester.

Ensuring that our materials were accurate so that folks would know where they could get vaccinated or tested without paying. This task was the highest priority and took coordinated efforts. With support from our partners at the NAACP, we have finalized our information postcards available in Swahili, English, French, Spanish, Nepali, and Arabic. These postcards are being distributed by our outreach team and by outreach teams from our partners at Granite State Organizing Project and Rights and Democracy.

In the coming months, we will be tabling at several community events, including the May 14th Art & Plant Extravaganza and the June 19th Juneteenth Celebration. At these events, we will share important information, have fun activities for the entire family and hold a free vaccine clinic available to community members. We hope to see you there!

Thank you to all who set aside some time to come out to our last town hall.We continue to host our town hall for people to join us on the first Thursday of the month. Please feel free to share the meeting connection with anyone you know who would love to join our community.
